Welcome
to the Camp Carter Web page for United Youth Camps. [Please
note, this is
NOT the Website
for the YMCA and their program, which runs all summer.] The United Youth Camps
program is are supported by the
United Church of God, an International Association and rent camps across
the U.S. for our summer and winter camp programs--usually about a week long. The camp we
use for our United Youth Camps summer camp in Texas is a YMCA facility located on
the northwest side of Fort Worth, TX, near Lake Worth, named Camp Amon
Carter. This is our UYC-Camp Carter entry page, which will give current year information
about the camp as well as links to past camp Web pages, and will be used
to post any special announcements we feel parents should be aware of during
camp. We'll also include some other items, like a link to check the current
weather, current year application forms for campers and staff, and the
current year camp description used in the annual camp magazine. We hope
the page will be a helpful communication tool before, during, and after
camp for campers, staff members, and parents.
The United Church of God member Web site has a page giving all
the United Youth Camps information each year, as well as having a copy of
the current year's Camp Magazine for download or viewing. The Youth Camp button is on
the menu on the left side of the member Web site. Here's the direct link in case
you're having trouble finding the page: http://members.ucg.org/youthcamps/.
Camp Photo Disk:
We are once again offering a disk of
photos from Camp Carter. To order one, send $5 to Mr. Andy Burnett, 815 N Lake
Caddo Ct, Slidell, LA 70461. It will take us a little while to sort and rename
all the hundreds of photos taken this year, but we will create and burn the
disks as soon as we can.
Here's a short video at golf.
The oldest
boys dorm and oldest girls dorm are each given two hours of golf in three
areas--driving, chipping, and putting. Sydney did a great job sinking the put
for us! Click here to see the MPG video.
2010 Dates:
The 2010 dates have
now been set. Camp will run from July 4 -11, 2010. Staff are to arrive on July
3.
Application Deadline is May
1st!
Camp 2009 Update
Camp Carter is over for 2009. We had a
GREAT camp--terrific staff and wonderful campers. We're already looking forward
to next year!
The links below are now active.
Please note that following our switch to the online registration program last
year, we will no longer be posting application packets online to be downloaded. The link for you to
apply for camp will be on a new United Youth Camps
Website that is being developed for debut in 2010. It is not yet
active, but when it is released it will be available via a link on the UCG Member Website.
Details will be posted when it is available.
The packing list, transportation form, and the YMCA release forms are available now. They
were also sent out via
email by the new online application system, but a copy is available here in
case you need another.
Maps are available below
to help you get to Camp Carter as well as for service in Ft. Worth. You'll need
the free Adobe Acrobat Reader program (see link below) to view and print them.

We're expecting lots
of action, a good balance of
“down time,” and plenty of opportunities to visit with other campers
and staff from around the country at Camp Carter.
Activities are varied,
ranging from many indoor activities (Christian Living, crafts, dance and
strength training) to the more active outdoor activities (basketball, flag
football, horseback riding, softball, skeet/archery, speedaway and
volleyball).
In addition, everyone
participates in the ropes course (high and low elements) and a half-day
lakefront activity on nearby Lake Worth. Waterskiing, tubing, swimming,
kayaking or just lounging on the shore with a brother or sister dorm is a
popular activity. The oldest boys dorm and oldest girls dorm experience a
few extras such as a golf class on a nearby course, rappelling at the
65-foot tower and a cookout dinner at the lake.
Camp Carter offers
many opportunities to visit
with fellow campers at meals, joint swimming sessions and dance classes,
the lakefront activity, evening activities and snack time, as well as on
the Sabbath and the two dances—one early in the week and the other on
the final night—all in the safe, accepting atmosphere of United Youth
Camps.
Christian Living
classes, daily Compass Checks, and nightly Bible Q&A sessions—facilitated
by the ministerial staff—help give a solid base of biblical instruction
as well as discussion of the yearly camp theme. Every year, campers tell
us they find the biblical/Christian living instruction and discussion the
most beneficial aspect of camp for them. Additionally, campers and staff
are given the opportunity to sing in the choir during Sabbath services.
All of this takes
place in Fort Worth, Texas, on a beautiful over-300-acre country property
amid the rolling Texas hills. Large oaks and sycamore trees provide lots
of shade; however, don’t worry about heat stroke! We schedule most of
the active outdoor activities in the morning and the indoor and water
activities in the afternoon.
Transportation
If you plan to fly to camp, transportation to and from DFW
and Dallas Love Field will be provided free of charge. Please schedule
your flight’s arrival between noon and 3 p.m. on July 5 and your
departure between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on July 12. This will allow us time
to schedule our airport runs so you arrive near the beginning of check-in,
which starts at 3 p.m.
If you are traveling by private vehicle, plan to arrive
between 3 and 5 p.m. on July 5 and depart at or shortly after 10 a.m. on
July 12. Please note that we will not be able to accept campers before 3
p.m. on July 5, since we need the time on both Saturday night and Sunday
to finish our staff training before campers arrive. We want to provide the
best quality staff team to care for our campers, so thank you in advance
for your cooperation in this regard.
Staff
The YMCA staff will run the ropes course, rappelling,
archery, skeet/riflery, swimming pool, horseback riding, as well as
provide the meals. We will need counselors and assistant counselors, plus
staff for all other activities, including lifeguards for the lakefront
activity and nursing staff for the Health Center.
Precamp staff training is an important factor in making
sure we serve the campers effectively at our United Youth Camps, so we’re
asking all staff members to arrive in time for afternoon services in Fort
Worth on the Sabbath of July 4. The brethren have been wonderful in
providing a meal for us each year, after which we’ll move into the
facility and undergo training sessions Saturday night and Sunday before
campers arrive. Campers arrive Sunday, July 5, and depart Sunday, July 12.
